Thanks to our Washington State counterpart – Here is video of the new DUO lightbar in full glory.

“The Liberty Series LED lightbar has just received a big upgrade.

Now you can have full red and blue warning lights to the rear when you are running to an incident.

But when you get to the scene, and need to advise traffic which way to go, you can switch to an all amber LED Traffic Advisor function.

Using interleaved diodes Whelen Engineering Company has now offered the most operationally advanced LED lightbar in the industry.

For those in Washington State you can get a live demo by giving Kent Bruce a call:

Kent D. Bruce Company, LLC
P.O. Box 225
Black Diamond, WA 98010
360-886-9410 (office)

Total Damage: 1 MR11 Takedown

There is a bigger story here thou as the bar captured the round. So instead of allowing the bullet to pass through the bar and possibly hit a citizen or officer it was safely retained inside the aluminum chassis. This is a huge advantage to the design of all Whelen lightbars vs.. the competitions all plastic construction. This construction also reduces RF interference issues and damage by sun and other weather related issues.

This also serves as a better platform for use with LPR cameras as the entire lightbar assembly is more stable.

55” Lightbar on F250-550 Series Trucks:

I have received many questions about what the F Series 250-550 looks like with a 55” Lightbar on it – So we placed one on the truck and took some reference shots for people to take a look at:

It is important for people to understand that lightbars must be sized to the vehicle and also must take into consideration utilization of the proper strap kits and mounting feet. These days we offer many different kits for different vehicles so make sure to ask.

For the F Series we recommend a 55” series lightbar based on the overall proper fit and look when on the vehicle. Remember that look is important, but more important is getting that corner warning light out to the edges of the vehicle.

Some have also asked about extending the strap kit bolts and this is not recommended unless the manufacturer supports this. Aftermarket bolts can cause damage to the vehicle or the lightbar and can also fail.

Using the sun to charge your vehicle.

Over the past 4-5 years I have seen many departments try to implement solar charging on their vehicles to help offset the parasitic draw caused by computers, phone and flashlight chargers, radios and other auxiliary components. This draw is a major issue when you look at the fleet costs associated with replacement batteries, alternators and other charging system components. Heavily used police, fire and public works vehicles never have a chance to fully recharge so we need to look for alternatives to offset this draw and thus lessen the overall effects on the vehicles systems.

The solar options available in the past were truly not suited for proper implementation on a Lightbar as they were large, non-aerodynamic and if installed improperly cause severe damage to the Lightbar they were attached too.

Whelen has recently released a panel system that takes the previous issues into account and can offer up to 12 watts of regulated power. Regulation of power is very important and in all previous implementations I have seen lack of this regulation actually caused issues with overcharging of the vehicle battery.

Please read on for a full description of the new offering:

Whelen Super-LED® lightbars are already designed for maximum energy efficiency using LED low current technology and aerodynamic profile. Now with one or two optional solar panels, you can compensate for parasitic draw from the vehicle’s computer, improving battery efficiency and extending the life of your vehicle battery.

FEATURES
■ Available for Justice, Liberty and Freedom lightbars.
■ Compensates for parasitic draw from the vehicle’s flash light charges, GPS units, computer and other accessories.
■ Prevents dead batteries and insures maximum life-saving performance from your vehicle battery.
■ Six-watt rectangular solar panel mounts unobtrusively on the lightbar surface.
■ Charges and cleans battery plates to increase battery life significantly.
■ Effective even in frequent cloudy and overcast regions.
■ Use up to two solar panels per lightbar.
■ Save time and money by reducing battery failure and replacement.
■ Solar Panel mounts in a polycarbonate tray that insures the integrity of the lightbar by creating a weather tight seal.

MODEL:
SOLARPNL: Single Solar Panel with regulator for Whelen Lightbars.
